EDUCATION
Greetings, Fellow Groomers!
Before I direct you to my educational offerings, I would like to encourage
all professional pet groomers to attend the trade shows and seminars that
are listed below. The trade show experience is a total package that cannot
be duplicated. It offers you a chance to get away for a few days (vacation
value), meet other groomers (networking/support value), see products as
presented by knowledgeable company reps (product education and SHOPPING
value), and attend fabulous seminars (educational value). A trip to a show
is totally WORTH IT! Go, ok?
Now, if you can't get out of Dodge and go to a trade show and attend
seminars, I am developing an alternative. On-line education for groomers is
here! This is an opportunity to further your professional knowledge base
without having to close shop, hire child care, arrange pet care, and without
the expense of travel. It is an opportunity for me to offer more depth of
material than what I can present in an hour or hour and a half seminar. The
classes will range from one to four weeks, so we can take our time and
really digest the material and allow our questions to arise.
The first classes will be text only, email/website based courses on topics
that do not require visualization. The first offering is "Chemistry for
Groomers - Going Beyond Suds & Scent." It will be a four week course
designed to give groomers a better understanding of how products work,
product ingredients, issues about ingredients, and a more clear knowledge of
the chemistry involved in our work. Together we will overcome our aversions
to things we can not pronounce! Click here to find out more:
www.GroomClassroom.com.
Another means of valuable learning and networking for support from
other groomers is to join a groomers email list. There are two main ones
with which I have the pleasure to belong: Groom_TNT at www.yahoogroups.com
and the GroomersList at www.groomers.org. These lists give you daily
contact with a group of knowledgeable groomers, ranging from veterans of
over 30 years in the industry to eager novice groomers.
Those trade shows I mentioned? Here is a listing of upcoming events:
- All American Grooming Show, Chicago, Ill. August 17-19, 2002 (Producer:
Jerry Shinberg) www.aagrmgshow.com
- U.S. Pet Pro Classic, Dallas, Texas Sept. 7-9, 2002 (Producer ISCC, Pam
Lauritzen) email: classic@petstylist.com
- 2002 CanGroom West, BC Canada Sept. 8-9, 2002
email: birnie@telusplanet.net
- Groom Expo, Hershey PA, September 28-29, 2002 (Producer: Barkleigh
Productions)
For further information, and discussion on these shows (and lots more), go
to www.groomers.org/discus - scroll down to "Seminars". Check out
the rest of the board while you're there!
To have your event appear here, email me at petpals@azstarnet.com
Hairily yours,

Schnauzers were the first breed I learned to groom.
They often come in pairs. When they live together, they start to look alike. This is either Heidi or Schatzie Grace in a short pet trim.
