Mouse Report (AKA Meece Report) - Mamacita's Version

Well, it happened. Perhaps it was inevitable. There is such a thing as the "food chain" after all. And animals will be animals.... or as I always say: "They don't call them animals for nothing you know." Well.... we got up early Saturday morning, anticipating a leisurely session reading email before making our way to the daily grind. You know how we love to talk about grooming, maybe even more than actually having to wrestle our way through a real day of it....So as I enter my living room, scurrying around my conversation pit is a mouse. What is a conversation pit? Nice of you to ask. It is a recessed (sunken) area in the room with seating where people can sit around. (and talk) It takes the place of furniture. The dogs love to go in there and dig up the cushions.

My pit is tiled, so it's slippery walls down there, and that mouse was zipping around looking for an escape route. There ain't no escape from Bird's pit! I grabbed the plastic bird seed canister from the window sill where I had placed it hoping to trap me some meece. I was going to slap that thing over the mouse and then relocate that creature. Gringo, however, had other plans. I'm down in the pit with the mouse and Gringo is right there. So I held him off by the scruff of the neck in one hand, hopelessly trying to sneak up on the mouse and slam the canister over him with the other. Two or three times of the mouse running over my bare feet and my hand, and I was out of there! I put one of my "humane" mouse traps up against the wall, hoping that the mouse would trap himself.

Did I say Gringo had other plans? He was so determined to participate that I gave in and let him have at it. The rest of the family, (Sheba, Rerun, Swirl and I) watched from above. I felt like we were observing some Roman sporting event.

It did not take Senor Gringo 20 seconds to snatch that mouse out of thin air. And that thing was waaaaay fast! And then,,,,,EEeeeeeewwwww! He ATE it! I didn't quite expect him to do THAT! First he brought it up out of the pit and hovered over it in front of the other dogs. Then he munched it right down. I had to leave the room..... My little lap buddy had turned into Hannibal the Cannibal. What action, what thrills!! What an hombre!! I am still a little breathless.

Breathlessly yours,

How to find me

Schnauzers were the first breed I learned to groom. They often come in pairs. When they live together, they start to look alike. This is either Heidi or Schatzie Grace in a short pet trim.
